American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

**NEW CLASS STARTING OCTOBER 3**

PLEASE SEE BELOW

We are proud to offer the new American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program! This program, developed in concert with USA Swimming and USA Diving offers a structured program based upon a child's developmental abilities. The newly released program includes not only basic swimming training, but also water safety education designed at teaching participants how to safely recreate in, on and around the water.

This course is not designed to teach you basic-level swimming skills. It is dedicated to developing the knowledge and skills you will need to plan and teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. To enroll, participants must be at least 16 years of age, and must pass a precourse skills assessment consisting of a 25 yard swim using each of the following strokes:

  • Crawl Stroke
  • Back Crawl
  • Breaststroke
  • Sidestroke
  • Elementary Backstroke
  • Butterfly

Monday, September 29 there will be a SWIM TEST for all participants from 5:00pm-6:00pm. If you are unable to make this time we can make arrangements for a different time prior to the class start date.

Additional times may be included depending upon class pace and/or cancellations for inclement weather.

Cost of the class is $250 which is a $50 discount from the classes offered through the American Red Cross.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor

We are proud to offer the new American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program.

The Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor course is designed to prepare you to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules.

Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue. Additionally, this course will fully recertify you in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, Oxygen Administration, and BBP:PDT programs.


Penn State’s Aquatic Director, Shawn DeRosa, helped develop the Red Cross lifeguarding program and Penn State lifeguards are featured in the training videos.  Why not learn from the people who wrote the book?

To Enroll, Participants Must:

  • Be 17 Years of Age
  • Possess Current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification (Certifications from other organizations will not be accepted).  Original certifications (not copies) required.
  • Successfully complete pre-course skills assessment and online training
