|| We are a group of students with a common interest - using the power of the wind to move a boat. We have a variety of skill levels, from the novice sailor to the experienced skipper. If you've never sailed before and are willing to learn, we'll teach you how. We also race competitively against schools, leisurely on the weekends and have many social opportunities. Making a sailboat move is easy, making it move fast is a near art form; we look forward to teaching you.
The Penn State Sailing Club is a unique co-ed club dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing, as well as offering students a social environment of friendly people who have common interests. The Club encourages sailors of all abilities, from non-experienced to competitive racers. If you've never sailed before we'll teach you. If you've sailed your whole life, come and teach us some tricks.
We participate in a full time racing schedule. Penn State is a member of MAISA (Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association), in which we travel to compete against some of the top college sailors today. Most of the boats that we race are Flying Juniors or 420's, but we also race Standard Lasers, J-24's, Colgate 26's.
On the weekends we go out to Prince Gallitzin State Park where we have twelve Flying Juniors to use for practices and for a great day of relaxing on a sail boat. Every level and every person can participate in some way with the club. It is what you make it!
